Certified Hospitality and Tourism Management Professional (CHTMP)

High school students can earn an industry-recognized, portable professional certification upon completion of the two-year HTMP curriculum and exams, along with an internship experience.

Prerequisites
Candidates for this certification must be enrolled in a high school class that uses AHLEI's Hospitality and Tourism Management Program (HTMP) for its curriculum.  Students must pass the Year 1 and Year 2 exams with scores of 70% or higher; and also complete 100 hours of paid or unpaid work experience in one of more of the following qualifying areas:

Accommodations-Hotels, resorts, motels, hostels, vacation rentals, vacation ownership, bed & breakfast properties, recreational vehicles and camping
Food & Beverage-Restaurants, full-service, fine dining, quick service, banquet facilities, lounges
Transportation-Airlines, cruise lines, rail, car rentals, tour/coach operators, bus lines, taxis
Attractions-Theme parks, zoos, national/state/local parks, natural wonders, heritage sites
It is preferred that students complete the 100-hour on-site workplace requirement between Year 1 and Year 2; however, the requirement must be completed within 120 days of taking the HTMP Year 2 exam. 

Students who are unable to complete the internship can also meet this qualification by completing the Knowledge Matters Virtual Business Hotel online simulation and submitting the completion voucher to AHLEI.

How to Apply
HTMP students apply for this certification through their participation in the curriculum.  Their instructor will roster the students.  AHLEI will monitor completion of the requirements (Year 1 and Year 2 exams, voucher for completion of work requirement or Knowledge Matters simulation) and award the certification upon receipt of all components.

Resource Material
The resource material for this certification are the textbooks and workbooks for Year 1 and Year 2 of the Hospitality and Tourism Management Program (HTMP) curriculum.

Exam
Students must complete the 100-question exam for Year 1 and Year 2 of the HTMP with a score of 70% or higher. Students receive a Certificate of Completion from AHLEI for each year.
